BASIC USE OF CUTTING AND GRINDING WHEELS
1) HANDLING: always handle wheels with extreme care and attention. If there is a slightest suspicion
of damaging or mishandling of the wheel, please contact your sales representative.
2) STORAGE: on receipt check all wheels and packaging carefully to make sure there was no damage
caused during the transport. Store the wheels carefully and in such a way as to ensure that they
are used on a rota basis. Reinforced resin wheels should be used within 3 years from manufacture
date. Always store wheels in dry conditions avoid exposuring in a place where temperatures change,
particularly very cold temperature.
3) CHOISE OF WHEELS AND MOUNTING PROCEDURE: always use the appropriate wheels
for each separate operation. Do not use cutting wheels for grinding operations. Do not use wheels
which are cracked or damaged in no way. Mount wheels with appropriate steel flanges, as indicated
by FEPA rules. Cutting wheels of a diameter of 115-230 mm are normally mounted with flanges of
a diameter of 39-42 mm. Do not alter the bore of the wheel: do not force it into the spindle and ensure
that there is not excessive play between the two. Use only machines fitted with safety guards which
conform with FEPA-CEN-EN-68 regulation. Always wear protective clothing: glasses or goggles,
gloves, overalls, dust masks and ear protectors.
4) USE OF WHEEL: before start of cutting or grinding operation let the wheel rotate for at least one
minute and ensure that no-one is in the trajectory of the rotation plane. During the cutting operations
using fixed machines, ensure that the workpiece to be cut is securely fixed by means of the appropriate
device. When using portable machines ensure that the workpiece is firmly secured during cutting
or grinding operations. Do not force the wheel to be pinched during cutting operations. Ensure that
no infiammable materials are near the machine during cutting and grinding operations. This brief
synopsis of the general rules cannot obviously take into consideration all eventualities especially those
concerning particular applications. For more detailed information or in case of any doubt, please
contact your supplier.
