Tape measures are an alternative to the popular folding meters, measuring tapes, or various scales and rulers. However, compared to other meters, they are more efficient, more compact and more versatile. Tape measures have their own winding mechanism, are equipped with a brake for locking the tape, which makes handling and measuring easier.
Tape measures, for example, the 4CZech brand, are made of high-quality and durable materials (usually ABS), the tape has a nylon surface for greater durability and durability. Tapes come in various sizes and lengths, usually from 3m long and 16mm wide, to 10m long and 25mm wide. But there are also smaller or larger sizes. Measuring tapes are suitable for measuring longer distances. Narrower tapes offer the advantage of measuring in smaller spaces, while wider ones offer better durability and readability for industrial or construction use. The tapes themselves often have two scales. Both in centimeters (with millimeter divisions) and in inches.
The tapes can be equipped with a magnetic head or a rubber hook and a clip for attachment, which is already a common standard. 4CZech tape measures are accurate and meet European standards of accuracy class II. At a length of 3 m, the maximum permissible deviation is less than 1 mm. Tools corresponding to this class offer high accuracy and are intended for professional use. Class III is suitable for DIY and hobby work. The self-aligning hook itself ensures accuracy for internal and external measurements. It can also be equipped with a magnet or a rubber end.
Tape measures are equipped with above-standard features that increase their versatility and make work easier. Automatic tape locks prevent the tape from sliding, which allows for greater control and higher efficiency. The size of the meter and clips or loops for attachment make it easier to always have the meter at hand. Tape measures are usually made of ABS plastic, but they are also available in an aluminum version, for example. The tapes are made of steel, fabric, plastic or fiberglass (depending on the type of tool) and are wound onto a mechanism using a spring inside the tool body. In measuring tapes, the tape is wound with a loop. The color variant or rubber coating is according to the manufacturer's offer. As well as the accuracy class or resistance of the structure (for example, against falling).
An important aspect is the possibility of extending the tape over a longer distance without support. 4CZech measure tapes offer up to 2.5m without support (8m tape measure).
As already mentioned, alternatives to tape measures include folding tape measures (plastic, wood), measuring tapes (for measuring larger distances), various rulers, laser measures and tailor's tape measures. However, the most popular among craftsmen are tape measures. Not only for their variability, but also for their robustness, durability, compactness, accuracy and most importantly... every handyman always has one on hand.

The prototype of the tape measure, the so-called standard, was made as early as 1799 and the "French revolutionaries" are responsible for the metric system.
