In a previous article, we have already familiarized ourselves with the basic shapes of turning tools with a brazed cutting insert. Another very important criterion for choosing a tool is the material of the cutting insert. Here we choose according to the material we will machine.
The recommended use according to the machined metal materials is divided in three groups.
1) Steel and cast steel
2) High-strength steel, cast steel, austenitic steel, malleable cast iron, and heat-resistant alloys
3) Gray cast iron, malleable cast iron of hardened steel, aluminum alloys of non-ferrous metals
Each category is further divided according to the toughness and wear resistance of the machined material.
