Each diamond disc is composed of a metal carrier, which is the largest visible part of the disc, and the so-called segments that are welded to this carrier. The segments are most often laser-welded or sintered to the disc carrier. Less often, the method is classical soldering.
The segment is the most important part of the disc and is made of a binder (so-called matrix) in which synthetic diamond grains are distributed. The size, frequency and shape of the diamond grains fundamentally determine the service life and cutting properties of the disc.
When choosing a diamond disc, you need to consider what type of cutting you will perform. Will you use an electric circular saw or an angle grinder? What type of cooling will you have available?
You need to know that high temperatures are generated during cutting, which leads to two different types of cutting: wet and dry cutting. Cooling during dry cutting is provided only by the air flow created by the rotating disc itself. Dry cutting discs can be water-cooled, which will extend their service life and improve the quality of the cut surface, but wet cutting discs should never be used without water cooling.
Do not underestimate the storage of the disc during the off-season, store it in a dry place to prevent corrosion.
TYPES OF DIAMOND DISCS
SEGMENTED DISCS
A segmented disc with an interrupted segment is designed for both wet and dry cutting. It is suitable for cutting more abrasive materials, such as concrete, stone, asphalt, masonry and other building materials. It cuts very quickly, actively cools itself and carries the abraded material out of the cut. There is also a segmented disc with vacuum-brazed cooling segments.
ALL-ROUND DISCS
All-round disc with an uninterrupted segment is suitable for hard materials, such as tiles, marble, ceramics, porcelain, etc. Although it is one of the slower discs, it creates a smooth, clean cut without burrs. It is necessary to cool it with water, i.e. cut wet, otherwise there is a risk of overheating and it will curl.
TURBO DISCS
A turbo disc is a combination of the two previous types. The segment is around the entire circumference of the diamond disc and the disc has small grooves on the sides that separate it. These grooves are offset laterally, so there is no gap between them. It is designed for various common building materials including stone, marble, granite, etc. It ensures a fast and smooth cut and is suitable for cutting both dry and wet. There is also a diamond mesh disc, suitable for tiles.
If you want to cut metal, we recommend, for example, a vacuum-brazed diamond disc with cooling segments, which does not need to be cooled with water. For cutting asphalt and green concrete, we offer a diamond blade, where there is no risk of undercutting thanks to strong wedge protection and it is used for dry or wet cutting.
We also offer universal diamond discs.
Diamond discs are usually specifically focused and you must always cut only the material they are intended for. For soft materials, use discs with a hard bond and coarse diamond grains. For hard materials, use discs with a soft bond and fine diamond grains.
