          Thread forming

          Thread forming
Internal thread forming is a chipless technology for thread production. The thread is not cut, but formed by pushing the material out. In this way, threads can be made from materials that are easily cold-formed, with a minimum tensibility of 10%.

Advantages of thread forming compared to cut threads:

          - no chips are formed, complications with their jamming are eliminated
          - higher surface quality on the walls of the formed thread
          - smooth thread, no cutting grooves on the thread surface
          - uniform thread calibration
          - uninterrupted material fibers by cutting
          - increased strength of the screw connection
          - greater tool resistance to breakage and thus longer tool life
          - higher speeds during forming increase productivity

Conditions for using thread forming technology:

          - compliance with the required diameter of the pre-drilling hole; a smaller hole can cause the tool to break, a larger hole means a small thread diameter that is not formed
          - sufficient lubrication; high friction occurs during forming, therefore the use of high-quality lubricating oil is recommended
          - sufficient shaft/tap speed - revolutions

Recommended pre-drilling of holes for thread forming

The stated values must always be verified with regard to the tensibility of the formed material.
