          Tool coatings

          Tool coatings
What is tool coating and what is it used for? We will look at this in this article.

Coating is a process where a thin layer of coating is applied to the material or tools. The main advantage is increased wear resistance, resistance to mechanical shock, thermal changes, the effects of acids and alkalis, erosion and high temperatures. Coatings can be single-layer or multi-layer. The most common are TiN and TiCN and TiAlN.

          TiN coating – Titanium Nitride

          - basic and most widely used coating
          - microhardness 20-25 GPa
          - golden color
          - universal use – for almost all applications
          - advantage – good elasticity and adhesion

          TiAlN coating -Titanium Aluminum Nitride

          - microhardness 30-35 GPa
          - red-brown color
          - high resistance to high temperatures
          - suitable for high-speed machining

          TiCN coating - Titanium Carbonitride

          - microhardness 30-40 GPa
          - blue-gray color
          - harder and more impact resistant than TiN
          - wear-resistant against adhesive corrosion, low coefficient of friction, high toughness

In our assortment you will commonly find DIN 338 HSS and HSSCo5 drills in TiN coating, other coatings are available on request. We offer coated taps in TiN and TiCN coating, other coatings on request.
