          Re-sharpening machines

          Re-sharpening machines
Surely everyone knows this. No one can make a hole in the world with a blunt drill. That's why we'll now look at re-sharpening drill machines.

There are several ways to sharpen/grind a drill. The easiest is by hand on a disc grinder, but the result is quite uncertain.
Another option is grinders with a drill chuck. This option is a few hundred crowns more expensive than sharpening a drill by hand, but it's still a hobby option for drills up to 10mm in diameter.

But now we'll focus on professional re-sharpening drill machines. There are several types on the market, depending on the manufacturer.
The drill itself is clamped in the tool using a collet, which eliminates unwanted effects during grinding and thus guarantees precise and sharp grinding of drills even in large sizes. (For example, the re-sharpening drill machinefor sharpening drill points from NÁSTROJE CZ, s.r.o. can handle drills with a diameter of 32mm.)
The tip adjustment range is 90-140° and it is for right-handed twist drills made of cobalt and high-speed steels in the range of 2-32mm and it is also possible to grind reliefs - the split point "C" and „AC“ and other (depending on the type of machine).
The collets and CBN wheel for HSS drills are part of the machine, but they are also available separately, as other individual components of this machine. It is also possible to supplement the machine with a diamond wheel, which can also re-sharpen drills made of carbide materials.
The machine is air-cooled and, thanks to its easy adjustment, offers fast and effective sharpening in a very short time.

And how to resharpen a drill, for example the drills with geometry CZ002 or CZ004, which are designed to be easily re-sharpened?
Insert the collet into the clamping nut at a 45° angle and only then insert the drill into the collet and screw the nut into the clamping holder. Set the indicator scale on the grinder according to the drill diameter. Then, pressing it all the way down, clamp the collet into the device. After turning on the machine, insert the holder into the grinding hole, carefully press it against the grinding wheel and sharpen the drill by turning it to the right and left. When you turn the holder 180°, you re-sharpen the second cutting edge in the same way. The relief of the cutting edge is ground in a similar way, only the second grinding hole is adapted for this.

It is important to note that the life of the drill depends on proper use, following cutting conditions, using the material you are drilling into and using cutting oil or paste. It is also recommended to maintain the original geometry of the drill when re-sharpening.
